Why can't I Lucid Dream? | 4 Obstacles | Dream Yoga

Are you struggling to achieve lucid dreams? This article explores the reasons behind the question "Why can't I lucid dream?" and offers tips to overcome these obstacles from dream yoga.

Why can't I Lucid Dream? Four Obstacles According To Shardz Rinpoche

Why can't I Lucid Dream

Shardz Rinpoche lists four factors that prevent you from learning about lucid dreams. He categorized it as follows:

  • Obstruction due to prana
  • Hindrance due to the mind
  • Obstruction due to local spirits
  • Obstruction due to illness

Mind and Prana

These hindrances prevent you from learning lucid dreaming and at the same time it also hinders you from remembering the dream. If you are suffering from Prana problem then your body's energy will remain blocked. Energy will not be able to circulate fully in your body.

Our mind and prana both remain connected to each other. If there is any kind of obstruction in the Prana, it will affect the mind as well.

In this regard, any activity that relaxes your mind, such as massage or a hot water bath, can prove beneficial.

Try to keep your mind calm and still as much as possible during the day. The mind becomes so busy thinking thoughts that it becomes difficult to sleep.

Due to the running of the day and doing more thoughtful actions, the mind becomes very unstable, due to which the mind keeps on thinking even at the time of sleeping.

If you are unable to calm your mind at bedtime, then do more physical work during the day. This will make your body tired and you will fall asleep quickly at night.

You can also try other ways to relax your mind, such as meditation, yoga nidra, counting techniques, or MILD.

Obstruction Due to Local Spirits

Why can't I Lucid Dream

Your sleep may be shallow and disturbed due to not being in tune with the local spirits. I know very well that such things will not be believed by the people of western countries. They would be unwilling to accept that the energy and feel of a place can depend on the local spirits too---in a way, they are right.

But Tibetan yogis believe that such spirits do exist. If a human being interferes with those spirits or creates an imbalance in their energy line then that person will also be affected in return.

Provocations by local spirits can result in nightmares and difficulties in remembering dreams. These spirits can also disturb the person in sleep.

To deal with this type of problem, first, you have to understand the nature of the problem very well. Correct solutions are found only after understanding the problem well.

For Tibetans, there are many solutions to such problems. If a Tibetan person is suffering from such a spirit problem, he can go to his guru and find a solution.

Local spirits can also be pacified by making offerings and practicing chod according to their nature.

But if you do not have a guru and cannot do such measures, then you can try to pacify those spirits by lighting incense sticks with a devotional attitude.

If you do not believe in such process also then you just try to change your inner environment. Keep calm and meditate. Try to make your mind absolutely calm and stable.

Consciously notice the negative thoughts going on in your mind and let them go. Do not pay much attention to the thoughts coming into your mind.

When you see the thoughts arising in your own mind, then slowly thoughts will stop coming. Do this exercise twice a day every day. Do this exercise especially before sleeping at night. When you go to sleep in a calm state, you are more likely to have lucid dreams.

By keeping the mind calm, there is stability in the mind and awareness also increases to a great extent. Consciously waiting for sleep with a calm mind maintains the sequence of consciousness and the same consciousness will continue during sleep.

Obstruction Due to Illness

Why can't I Lucid Dream

The fourth obstacle to learning to lucid dream is an illness. By illness in this context, I mean disturbances in the sleep process. If you are suffering from any kind of mental or physical illness related to sleep health then you should consult the nearest doctor.

To learn to lucid dream, you must have a good quality of sleep.

Conclusion

The above-mentioned four obstacles are based on Dream Yoga. If you are suffering from any of these hindrances then you must remove that hindrance first.

Lucid dreaming can be an incredible experience, but it's not always easy to achieve. If you're struggling to have lucid dreams, don't give up hope. With persistence and the right techniques, you can learn to lucid dreams. So, why can't you lucid dream? Keep trying, and you may just surprise yourself.
